The Discomfort of Being Direct

What I tried

I challenged myself to be more direct about my expectations, both professionally and personally, rather than avoiding uncomfortable conversations out of fear of rejection or losing an opportunity.

What happened

At first, it felt uncomfortable. In business, I realized that I've sometimes accepted projects despite being dissatisfied with the compensation, time commitment, or terms, simply because I didn't want to lose the opportunity. By communicating my expectations clearly, I gave others the freedom to agree, negotiate, or decline, while giving myself permission to walk away from opportunities that weren't the right fit. This helped me avoid frustration, resentment, and regret.
