What I tried
I gave people the option of not having a card on file to try a freemuim subscription. I designed my site to present them with the opportunity to use my website for free for a certain time frame, without having a card on file. I wanted to build trust in the product that I was building and that if they truly saw it useful and signed back in after their freemuim expired, that they would just pay their membership dues. Everyone is burnt out with keeping up with freemuim subscriptions before they are charged. I wanted to remove that barrier.
What happened
Everyone I spoke to at local markets and at farmstands really loved the idea. They have not heard of such a thing with any other platforms that were offering freemuims. However, it has not given me the traction that I was hoping for.

Interesting! Have you tried requiring the card to see what happens?
I did at the beginning....and I just got a glazed stare of exhaustion.
